How to Centre Your Wallpaper
by Jackie van Oostrom
The wallpaper images available in the Free Gallery on this site have a resolution of 1024 x 768. I recommend that you centre the 1024 x 768 wallpaper on your monitor's desktop so that there is no distortion of the image.
The information on this page is relevant only to the Free Gallery wallpapers. The PC Desktop wallpaper images available for sale in the Store do not need to be centered as they are available in the high resolutions of 1920 x 1200, 1680 x 1050, 1600 x 1200 & 1280 x 960.
17 Inch Monitor
If you have a standard 17 inch monitor I would recommend that you set your desktop at a resolution of 1024 x 768 & centre the image. The wallpaper image will completely fill a monitor at these settings.
22 Inch LCD Monitor
If you have a 22 inch LCD monitor then I would recommend that you set your desktop at a resolution of 1280 x 800 & centre the image. You will have some empty space to the right & to the left of your image. I set the desktop colour to black so that it appears to recede into the background. But you could also choose to set the colour to something that tones in with the general colour tones of the image. I strongly recommend that you centre the wallpaper image on a 22 inch LCD monitor with a resolution of 1280 x 800. The wallpaper image will display with no distortion. If you choose to stretch the image to completely fill your monitor's display, you will distort the image so that it looks awful.
Centre Your Wallpaper Image
Click Start at the bottom left side of your monitor. Then click on Control Panel. Click on Appearance and Themes. Click Change the Desktop Background and the Display Properties window will come up. The Desktop tab should already be selected. If you are under one of the other tabs then click on the Desktop tab to select it. The image should already be selected as your wallpaper. It will be displayed as a little image on a monitor under the Desktop tab. Under the Position pulldown menu select Center. (Don't select Stretch or Tile otherwise the wallpaper will be distorted). At this point you could also choose your background colour. I recommend black. The colour of your background can be selected under the Color pulldown menu. When you're finished, click OK.
